Hi
Thanks for taking the time to look us up and find out about us. We hope this page gives you a feel for what we are like... Of course it's all only words and we are bound to be different in the flesh... Come and find out for real.
The truth is that we are nothing special. We don't say that to sound humble - just honest. We have big dreams (and they are growing) but they are not based on any sense of us being something - just on the idea that God might be able to do incredibly more than all we could ask for or imagine. We have hope. It's not always been like this. We are all carrying our wounds around with us.
We are all ages - children and young people, and couples, singles, male, female... Some of us are old, but don't remind us as we like to forget it. Some of us are quite severely disabled and we live in a home opposite the church called Poolemead. Some of us are deaf. Others of us are fostering children. Some of us are divorced. Other married. Others neither. We are definitely different. We all have that in common... and Jesus. Which is interesting, because often when we get together we look around at each other and wonder at what exactly ties us together... We think it is a work of God.
We believe God loves people, like us, people who live in Twerton...
Our services are never the same... although if you've come for a while you'll notice a pattern. We are an Anglican church and are rooted in its traditions and liturgies. But we are also informal and relaxed. We are have a great band who often lead our singing. We like to keep things simple and straightforward. We try to sign the words, so that all of us can join in, but we are still learning how to do this. We appreciate beauty. We enjoy creativity. We are charismatic.
We want to be a community. More than a service, we want to be known for our relationships and we know we all have gifts to use and like to participate. We like being together, in a larger group, in small groups in even smaller groups (called Formation groups). We like to eat together...
We are joyful. We are easy going. We like to chat. We like good teaching. We like to share the 'peace'. We know we get it wrong. We know we are loved by God.
A church for you
Stories
Want to find out more about us? Here are a few stories written by some of us. Everyone is different and each of us have a unique story to tell of how we came to St Michaels... We each have a different story to tell and we're all on our own 'journey'.
